Burning Paper Simulation Project

This personal project was an exploration of combining Houdini Vellum cloth simulation with Houdini Pyro systems, and the real-time Axiom solver. See breakdowns of my process below!

The initial system is built on a Vellum setup. Using a Pyro Source spread, the paper's rest length, active points, and weld strength are animated to curl and break apart.

Baking the initial Vellum simulation and rasterizing the Pyro volumes, the Pyro simulation can be added to the paper. From here, it's just a matter of caching each system and shading for rendering. The burn attribute on the paper geometry can also be used to create a material matte to drive the burning materials.
